“CopenHill is a blatant architectural expression of British architectural photography studio Hufton + Crow has released new images of the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) -designed Amager Bakke, a combined heat-and-power waste-to-energy power plant on the CopenHill is the cleanest waste-to-energy power plant in the world. BIG searched for a way to express this into its architecture and came up with the crazy idea to combine an energy plant with a ski slope on the roof and the tallest climbing wall in the world on the corner. Completed in 2017 by Bjarke Ingels Group, Copenhill is a 41,000m2 waste-to-energy plant with an urban recreation center and environmental education hub.
But BIG’s ambitious Copenhill, many years in the making and already much-written about, goes further than bringing beauty to such a structure: It actively draws people in through its programmatic design – doubling as a “fun factory,” in the words of the firm.
